Two Space Cadets: A Repurposed Short Film

Two Space Cadets: A Repurposed Short Film

Earlier, we cut together test footage for a film adaption of a short story in dramatic form that was published here on Nerdopotamus, entitled “This Is The Way.” After watching the work over and over again while editing, we realized how simply a portion of it could be repurposed to tell a fun story about two friends hanging out. So, in the spirit of experimentation, that’s exactly what we did. Check it out! “Two Space Cadets: A Repurposed Short Film”

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “Highway 58”

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “Highway 58”

This film came about when my friend and frequent collaborator Kevin Keating – the star of Highway 58 – approached me with a script he had written. I was eager to take on a script for a story that I hadn’t conceived myself, so I was enthusiastic to give the script a read. I thought the script was solid with some really interesting characters dealing with some deeply rooted emotions and decided to take it on. I was in the midst of watching and re-watching Richard Linklater’s “Before Trilogy” – Before…

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “The Drunken Odyssey”

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “The Drunken Odyssey”

“The Drunken Odyssey” was made entirely on Snapchat as part of an inaugural contest for Tribeca Film Festival. It comes from Nerdo regular Jovanni Ibarra, his wife Kristen-ann Ibarra, and Michael Zitz. It stars Jovanni, Anthony Iovino (owner of Mark Out Entertainment), and another Nerdo regular in Carlos. Anthony and Jovanni play two aspiring young filmmakers who find out about the contest this was created for, and then attempt to make it across New York to Tribeca to take part. Things obviously don’t go as planned, thanks to a bunch of alcohol,…

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “Don’t Take Your Guns To Town”

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “Don’t Take Your Guns To Town”

This is an interesting one to explain. It was made thanks to help from the fantastic Instinctiv Films, with Kevin Ramos absolutely killing it as director and the man behind the camera. The end result is a dope looking shootout, but there was supposed to be a little more. After everything, the hero was to find a letter that read: “Sorry friend, your princess is another castle.” That was actually the original name, “Your Princess Is Another Castle.” There was a joking Super Mario implication, but that was also there…

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “A Broken Foot and a Fractured Soul”

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “A Broken Foot and a Fractured Soul”

“A Broken Foot and a Fractured Soul” is a comedy short inspired by my friend, who actually broke his foot around the time of filming. I made this over six years ago. I was looking for something to shoot and thought my friend’s circumstance was ripe for comedy. Mostly because he didn’t break his foot doing anything. He was standing still, shifted his weight to one side, and his foot just broke. He always told people that he was attacked by the famous foot clan from the Teenage Mutant Ninja…

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “My Best Friend”

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “My Best Friend”

“My Best Friend” is a comedy short with some heart. It’s about two best friends spending a day together. It stars two of our contributors, Carlos Rivero and Joey Finnegan, and was filmed by another, Jovanni Ibarra. Fre also did sound. NOTE: There were a couple technical issues upon uploading the film to Youtube. A few of the dialogue scenes have very low audio. Turning it up should do the trick, but make sure to be on your toes. When the music kicks back in, it’ll be extra loud.

Original Short Film: “The House”

Original Short Film: “The House”

“The House” is a film about Chris and Eric, who enter into Chris’ grandma’s house, because it is supposedly haunted. Chris’ solution to this was to tell his grandma that he is a medium, and could get rid of any and all ghosts on her property. Click play, and see how that goes for them. The film stars Nerdo regulars Carlos Rivero, Robert Esposito, and Joey Finnegan, as well as a future Nerdo regular, and Joey’s brother, Kevin Finnegan. ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “Suicide Is Painless”

ORIGINAL SHORT FILM: “Suicide Is Painless”

Because Suicide Is Painless… By: Joey Finnegan How do I explain this film? I was younger, at the time, coming in at all of about 20 years old. I was very fond of the movie version of “Mash,” which featured “Suicide is Painless” as a theme song. That tune always stuck with me. How could I ever forget that haunting diddy about the pros and cons of killing yourself? Isn’t it weird as hell? You may remember it better from the Family Guy movie. Stewie sings it during the bar scene,…
